Lowering electricity consumption in European households through community participation and technological solutions

The PARENT project gives you the opportunity to reduce your household energy consumption and engage in your local community. Using an energy monitor, we will analyse your energy consumption and provide tips and activities aimed at increasing your household energy efficiency. We will also develop a platform for energy management and organise workshops to encourage involvement and support among the local community.
PARENT will operate across three European cities, linking up Amsterdam, Bergen and Brussels (Forest and Watermael-Boitsfort). In each of these cities, we will work with local authorities and citizens to build communities that will then collectively reduce household electricity consumption. By ensuring transparency, the project will address social acceptance of energy monitors and the technology we use.
PARENT stands for PARticipatory platform for sustainable ENergy managemenT. The project partners are Vrije Universiteit Brussel, University of Bergen, Resourcefully, Utrecht University, Blue Planet Academy & Consulting, Commune de Forest, Commune de Watermael-Boitsfort, Municipality of Bergen and City of Amsterdam.
Our team is funded for a period of three years (2016-2019) by a range of national research bodies that are coordinated through the Joint Programming Initiative “Urban Europe”.
